I laughed so hard I cried

I'm really into making lists. So when my friend Ralph asked if I knew of any places for his future 'Big Day' I, naturally, gathered my thoughts into a form of a list.

Little did I know my sister had an idea of her own.

I casually came across this this afternoon. And as you can guess, I laughed so hard I cried. My stomach still hurts from not breathing. ha ha.

i hope no one is offended...i had to share.

achievements

I have been on a performance high. I finished a book. saw two shows. delivered a few mixes. Re-organized & mass cleaned my room. Started dealing with repressed feelings...again. Well, now that I see it down in writing it doesn't seem so impressive, but still it made me feel good.

Here's the report:

Life of Pi - Yann Martel

Even though it came highly recommended to me, the high expectations did not disappoint. The well executed flow of the thoughts and experiences of Pi made this book quite a page turner. I was warned when I purchased it, that the beginning was a little hard to get through but that after the first 30 pages or so it really picks up; the well-meaning advice however did not apply to me. I loved the beginning and especially the end of this novel. I was literally laughing out loud in public places at certain points, which isn't that big of a deal when comparing it to yelling on the treadmill at LA Fitness while watching the World Cup.

One of many favorite quotes:

"What a terrible thing it is to botch a farewell. I am a person who believes in form, in the harmony of order. Where we can, we must give things meaningful shape....It's important in life to conclude things properly. Only then can you let go. Otherwise you are left with words you should have said but never did, and your heart is heavy with remorse."

oh Yann...you speak to my heart.

Black Kids

The venue was well run, no complaints. the crowd sucked, between being cursed out and my sister being burned my a Time-Travelers cigarette (not even kidding, he gave us his time and space travel business card for his contact information) I was over that party. It was nice to go to Miami and we met some friends down there but it didn't compare to my first visit to Vagabonds...I mean how many times does a girl get proposed to. ;) The music was a little scattered, between them playing a lot of new stuff and then playing their old stuff in a new way, I felt a little out of the loop. But once the oldies came on everyone started working together to make the night a success. Oh! and I got hit in the side of my head with a tambourine. But it all worked out because my friend caught it and gave it me and I got it signed by the band.

Sleigh Bells

It was a new venue for me, and it was probably the best part of the night (other than the perfect group of friends I happen to be with). From the wall art to the layout it was a hit. The crowd was better than the Black Kids crowd but not amazing. Even though we got there an hour later than planned, it was still too early because we had to 'sit' through two opening bands...the good thing is that both bands inspired me to take up drumming again...because if they can make it, so can I. The performance itself was pretty good. I had fun, but i agree with Johnathan when he said they should have had a DJ on stage or something else. It did feel lacking. Regardless, i did appreciate the unusual use of the stage. Discussing it later, I think Devin got it right...I'm getting too old for this stuff. (i'm 23 hahaha)

One more Book Review coming shortly...fingers crossed.
